**Former Governors Accused of Treason**
A government official in Georgia is calling for an investigation into two former governors. Sozar Subari, Secretary of the Temporary Investigative Commission, wants to know why these men served Russian generals during a war in 2008.
Subari made his comments at a meeting of the commission today. He was listening to someone from the Prosecutor General‘s Office talk about what happened then. The official pointed out that serving Russian generals like soldiers is not something you would expect from government leaders, especially when their own country is being occupied.
The two governors in question are Zaza Gorozia and Lado Vardzelashvili. They were in charge of the regions of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Shida Kartli at the time. Subari said serving Russian generals like this was “treason”. He thinks it’s a matter that needs to be looked into, even if it might not lead to criminal charges.
Subari’s comments highlight the complicated situation in Georgia during the August 2008 war with Russia. The country lost control of two regions at that time. Subari believes that the actions of these governors could give us a better understanding of how the government felt about being occupied by Russia.
