**US House Speaker Rejects Ukraine Aid Package**
The US House of Representatives will not approve a $24 billion aid package for Ukraine. The money was meant to buy weapons and equipment for Ukraine and restock the US military’s supplies.
Speaker Mike Johnson said he won’t support the funding because it was proposed by President Joe Biden. He wants to wait until President Donald Trump returns to office in 2025 before making a decision. Trump is expected to become president again then.
Johnson expects Congress to approve a temporary measure to keep the government funded, possibly until March. Some Republicans want this done sooner, in January. But with opposition from some House Republicans, Johnson may need help from Democratic lawmakers to pass this bill.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has said it will continue supporting Ukraine using funds from an earlier $60 billion package passed in April. The Secretary of State assured Ukraine and NATO that all authorized funding would be used.
