In response to Formula TV, Peter Stano, the EU‘s lead spokesperson for Foreign and Security Policy, called on Georgian leaders “to avoid any form of harsh rebuke and disinformation” towards the EU Ambassador in Georgia, Pawel Hisczynski.
“The EU ambassador in Tbilisi represents EU position and communicates EU expectations to Georgian partners.” The EU has full confidence and support for the Ambassador. We urge Georgian leaders to refrain from using harsh rhetoric or disinformation and instead work constructively in order to address polarization within the country,” said Stano.
Stano’s “harsh language” against the EU ambassador intensified after his comment about Georgian Dream’s campaign banners. These juxtapose the war-torn Ukraine and the “peace” that the GD offers, reinforcing GD’s campaign pillar of war-against peace. The Ambassador called GD banners “outrageous”, “shameful” and “disgusting”. Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili deemed these comments as evidence of “interference with the electoral process” or “hypocrisy”.
