UK Ready to Send Troops to Ukraine for Deal

The UK is ready to send its troops to Ukraine as part of peace deal, according to Sir Keir Starmer. He wrote in the Daily Telegraph that the UK was prepared to contribute to security guarantees to help keep Ukraine safe.

Sir Keir said that securing a lasting peace in Ukraine was essential for deterring Russia from further aggression in the future. He added that any role in helping to guarantee Ukraine’s security would also help to guarantee the security of Europe and the UK itself.

UK troops could be deployed alongside soldiers from other European nations along the border between Ukrainian-held and Russian-held territory.

The PM said that he did not take this decision lightly, but felt it was necessary to keep Ukraine safe. He added that a lasting peace in Ukraine would require guarantees from to prevent Russia from attacking again.

Sir Keir’s announcement comes after concerns were raised about the US moving ahead with Russia on peace talks without European leaders.

US Secretary of State is set to meet Russian officials in Saudi Arabia for talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. However, a senior source told the that Kyiv has not been invited to these talks.

Sir Keir said that a US security guarantee was essential for a lasting peace and that only the US could deter Russia from attacking again.

He added that UK troops would be needed to help secure Ukraine’s safety and that other European leaders must also increase their to take on a greater role in NATO.

Lord Dannatt, a former head of the Army, told the BBC that the UK military was “so run down” it could not lead any future peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. He said that up to 40,000 UK troops would be needed for such a mission and that the country simply did not have enough soldiers available.

The meeting in Paris will see leaders from several European countries come together to discuss this issue further.
