**UK PM Warns Putin on Ukraine Peace Deal**
The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that a ceasefire deal for Ukraine without security guarantees will be broken.
Starmer made his comments at the Northwood military base outside London to military planners on March 20. He said that Russia‘s history of breaking agreements meant that any peace deal would only last if it was backed by military strength.
“We know one thing for certain, which is a deal without anything behind it is something that Putin will breach,” Starmer said. “It needs to be clear to Putin that there will be severe consequences if he breaches the lines.”
**UK Military Support for Ukraine**
Starmer also discussed plans with military planners for providing support to Ukraine. He said that this would include air, sea, and land support to help reinforce Ukrainian capabilities.
“We’re not talking about something that replaces the capability, we’re talking about something that reinforces that,” Starmer explained.
**Changes in UK Stance on Ukraine**
Starmer’s comments differed from earlier statements where he called for a peacekeeping contingent of 10,000 troops provided by the UK and France. This was a smaller number than previously reported, when he discussed sending 30,000 troops with U.S. President Donald Trump.
**Global Efforts to Find a Peace Solution**
Meanwhile, global efforts continue to find a peace solution for Ukraine. The U.S. is set to hold talks between Russia and Ukraine on March 24 in Saudi Arabia, while French President Emmanuel Macron will convene European leaders in Paris on March 27 for discussions on peacekeeping.
