**Storm Damages Russia’s Crimean Bridge Defenses**
A storm in the Kerch Strait damaged the barriers protecting the Crimean Bridge, a key supply route for Russian forces. The damage was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on December 26.
The barriers were part of a network of measures set up by Moscow to protect the bridge after multiple successful Ukrainian attacks. However, satellite images taken on November 8, December 16, and December 24 show that Russia has yet to fully repair the barriers.
The storm also sank two Russian oil tankers in mid-December. The number of deployed barriers in the Kerch Strait has halved over the past month, making it harder for Russia to defend the bridge.
This is not the first time the bridge’s defenses have been damaged by severe weather. In September, a storm washed ashore protective barriers made of plastic and metal barrels. These incidents highlight the vulnerability of Russia’s defense systems.
The Crimean Bridge has been a repeated target of Ukrainian strikes, suffering significant damage in October 2022 and July 2023. It remains a focal point of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
