Serbian Student Claims Mistreatment by Montenegro Police
Luka Stojakovic, a student who has been involved in protests in Serbia, made an Instagram post on Friday. He said that he was stopped and mistreated by the police in Montenegro.
According to Stojakovic’s account, he entered Montenegro about 15 minutes after crossing the border. He said that he noticed a police vehicle parked on the side of the road. The officers turned on their siren and pulled him over. They took his documents and asked him to take a test for psychoactive substances.
Stojakovic said that his lawyer had advised him not to comply with a drug test administered by police. Instead, he should insist on a blood test. When Stojakovic requested a blood test, the officer told him it was not possible at that moment. The officer gave him two options: take the test or refuse it and be detained. Stojakovic refused the test and was detained for 24 hours.
He spent time in solitary confinement during his detention. His car was also temporarily confiscated. After being released, officers apologized to him, saying that the order for his detention had come from a higher authority.
The Montenegrin government has responded to Stojakovic’s claims. Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said he would investigate the police handling of Stojakovic’s case. However, the Montenegrin Police Directorate denied Stojakovic’s allegations. They said that he was stopped during a routine check and that his refusal to take a drug test justified his detention.
This is not the first time Luka Stojakovic has been in the news. Earlier this year, he and his twin brother Lazar were targeted by pro-government media outlets in Serbia. The outlets published images of their Croatian passports and claimed that they were involved with Croatian intelligence agencies, which were supposedly orchestrating protests in Serbia.
