Students Protest in Belgrade
Thousands of students and their supporters marched through the city of Belgrade on Friday. They went from their colleges to the Palace of Justice, then to a major intersection and bridge across the Sava river.
The protesters blocked the Mostar intersection and Gazela bridge for an hour between 2 and 3 pm. On the bridge, they hung a banner that said “The Demands Have Not Been Met”. This was because the Serbian authorities did not meet their demands.
The students are asking for several things: all documents about the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station should be published, the men who hurt protesting students should be arrested, and there should be more money for education at universities.
There were no speeches during the protest. After an hour, the students went back to their schools.
The protesters said they would meet again on Saturday in front of a security agency, and on Sunday in front of the Constitutional Court. They said this was “for a friendly conversation” because they are not afraid.
Traffic police stopped traffic during the blockade.
