US Not Considering Giving Nuclear Weapons to Ukraine
The United States is not planning to return nuclear weapons to Ukraine, according to US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. In an interview on December 1, Sullivan said that the idea of giving Ukraine nuclear capabilities was not under consideration.
Sullivan stated that instead, the US is providing conventional military aid to Ukraine to help it defend itself against Russia. This includes delivering anti-personnel mines and allowing Ukraine to launch US-made long-range missiles at targets within Russia.
Ukraine had previously given up its nuclear arsenal in 1994 as part of the Budapest Memorandum, in exchange for security guarantees from the US, UK, and Russia.
