**EU Asked to Intervene in Serbia**
A group of over 100 organizations, activist groups, and political parties have written a letter to European institutions. They want the EU to take action against the persecution of activists in Serbia.
Six people from Novi Sad were arrested three weeks ago. They are accused of planning something against the government. But the groups say this is not true. They claim the arrest was because of a private conversation that was secretly recorded and used against them.
The letter also mentions other activists who have left the country. They fear for their safety if they return to Serbia. The homes of these activists’ parents have been searched, which adds to the pressure on them.
The groups want the EU to demand that:
* The arrested people be released from custody until their trial
* Everyone gets a fair and impartial trial
* The government stops using the judicial system for political reasons
They claim this is against democratic values.
