Sweden will provide Ukraine a new package of aid worth nine million euros ($9.8 millions), which includes two vessels that are designed to improve maritime security.
Carl-Oskar BOHLIN, Sweden’s Minister for Civil Defense, announced the news during a briefing on Nov. 5 with Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Minister for Internal Affairs.
Bohlin explained the package will see the transfer of two ships to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Sweden will also supply 40,000 respirators and protective masks to the State Emergency Service.
“We are observing this situation and recognize that Ukraine fights for the entire civilized globe.” We will continue to support your efforts, because the safety of Europe is dependent on you,” Bohlin stated.
He also stressed Sweden’s intention of deepening cooperation between Ukrainian ministries and Swedish ministries. “We share your view of the security situation which has a direct impact on Sweden. We also want to learn from you in order to improve our security capabilities,” Bohlin said.
On October 28, Sweden announced an aid package worth 729 million Swedish Krona ($68 million) to Ukraine. The announcement was made during the fourth Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit held in Iceland. President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Prime Ministers of Iceland and Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
The total amount is $46.5 million, of which $21.6 million will be used to develop Ukraine’s defence industry.
