Sweden’s Minister for EU Affairs, Jessika Roswall, spoke out against the government in Georgia. She said she supports sanctions and other measures against them.
Roswall is worried about what’s happening in Georgia. She thinks its people belong in Europe and want to join the European Union. However, the current regime doesn’t seem interested in joining the EU anymore. So, Roswall agrees with putting pressure on them through sanctions and other measures.
The minister wants it clear that she supports the Georgian people, not against them. The European Union should stand together with the Georgian people who want to join the EU. It’s the regime that’s turning its back on this idea, not the EU.
Roswall thinks suspending visa-free travel for some government officials is a strong message. This way, the EU can show it’s targeting those in power, not the ordinary people of Georgia.
