**Switzerland Could Send Troops to Ukraine for Peacekeeping**
Switzerland’s army chief, Thomas Suessli, said on February 23 that the country could send around 200 troops to a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. But this would only happen if the Ukrainian government and the UN asked Switzerland to do so.
Suessli told a newspaper that it would take about nine to 12 months for Switzerland to prepare its soldiers for such a mission. However, he made it clear that Switzerland would not participate in any operations that involve using force to enforce peace. This type of operation is called “peace-enforcement”.
**No Concrete Request from UN**
There are currently no concrete requests from the UN for Switzerland’s military support. Suessli said these questions were still hypothetical. Despite this, Switzerland has already provided over $3 billion in economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
**Switzerland’s Neutrality Policy**
As a neutral country, Switzerland does not provide military aid to other countries. However, it does participate in international peace efforts. In fact, Switzerland recently hosted a global peace summit that brought together representatives from around 100 countries.
