Russia’s attacks on Ukraine have become more intense in recent days, but Ukrainian forces are holding their ground. According to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian troops were unable to break through Ukraine’s defenses.
The situation on the battlefield is very difficult, says Syrskyi. He made his statement after speaking with Admiral Tony Radakin of the UK Armed Forces. The two leaders discussed Russia’s actions and how they will be met by Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine has reported 250 clashes along the front line over the past day. Despite these intense battles, Russian forces were not able to achieve any significant gains. Syrskyi said that Ukraine’s defenses held firm in all areas where fighting occurred.
Russia is trying to take control of key towns in Donetsk Oblast, including Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. Ukraine expects larger-scale attacks in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts as well.
The UK has promised to increase its support for Ukraine in 2025. This decision was made after a phone call between Syrskyi and Radakin.
Russia is also using North Korean troops to try to push Ukrainian forces out of the region of Kursk Oblast, which they have been fighting over since early August.
