** to Extend Basic Training**

Ukraine’s military leadership plans to extend basic military training from 1.5 months to two months, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced December 27.

The decision comes after consultations with the Staff, branch commanders, and of individual combat units. Syrskyi emphasized that high-quality training is essential for preserving the lives and of soldiers.

Currently, new recruits complete a revised 1.5-month training course. However, intense battlefield conditions have sometimes limited additional training within military units, which is planned to last five to 14 days.

Syrskyi stressed the importance of addressing training challenges and updating basic military training standards to meet current needs.

**Reforms Underway**

These efforts complement broader reforms under General Mykhailo Drapatyi, who was appointed commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces on December 12. Drapatyi’s vision includes transforming the Ground Forces into elite military unit by modernizing training programs and integrating advanced technology.

His plans also prioritize social support for service members. In July, President highlighted the lack of training facilities for new soldiers, citing the military.

**Improving Effectiveness**

The planned changes aim to improve the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces as they continue to face intense hostilities. The aid will help alleviate a looming food crisis following the collapse of the Russia-backed regime in on December 8.
