Hungarian Minister Urges Ukraine and Russia to Negotiate
Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow on December 2. During the meeting, Szijjarto urged Ukraine and Russia to sit down at the negotiating table.
Szijjarto has been critical of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s approach to the war. He believes that a negotiated solution is needed, rather than relying solely on military force.
Hungary has taken a different stance from other European countries, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban pushing for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. This approach has led to tensions within the European Union.
Szijjarto also mentioned Hungary’s recent “peace mission” by Prime Minister Orban, which was met with outrage across Europe. He stressed that severing diplomatic relations would make a negotiated solution impossible.
Romania’s ruling party received 22.5% of the votes in parliamentary elections on December 2.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on December 2, promising to deliver 650 million euros worth of arms by the end of the month.
