Friedrich Merz, the candidate for chancellor from the opposition center-right CDU/CSU alliance, also said he would allow Taurus missile delivery. However, he wants to issue an ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir and lift restrictions on already provided arms first.

The German elections are getting closer, with polls showing the opposition CDU/CSU leading at 33%. The Social Democrats are in second place with 16%, followed by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 18%.
