**Serbian Teachers Not Intimidated by Government Threats**
A union leader from the Union of Serbian Education Workers, Mirjana Gasic, says that teachers are not afraid of being fired if they refuse to work. This is in response to a warning made by Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.
Vucevic said that classes will continue in the second semester, and that teachers who don’t teach will lose their jobs. He also warned students that those who don’t attend classes will get demerits.
Gasic says that no teacher is willing to give in to pressure from the government. She added that there aren’t enough teachers available to replace all those currently employed in schools.
**Teachers Demand Minimum Requirements**
Gasic noted that educators have a highly responsible job and emphasized that none of them want to shirk their work obligations. However, they are demanding that the government meet minimum requirements, including paying teachers an average Serbian salary as agreed upon in October 2023.
