**Macron Considers UN Peacekeeping Mission for Ukraine**
French President Emmanuel Macron is looking into the possibility of sending a United Nations-led peacekeeping mission to protect Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached. This proposal comes after ongoing efforts by a group of countries led by the UK and France, which aims to provide security guarantees to Ukraine.
Macron discussed this idea with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during a European Council summit. The proposal would involve deploying multinational forces to maintain security, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian aid in conflict zones. However, any UN peacekeeping force would need approval from the UN Security Council, where Russia has veto power. Given Moscow’s opposition to foreign troops in Ukraine, the likelihood of securing a UN mandate remains slim.
**Coalition of the Willing**
The UK and France are leading a “coalition of the willing” that aims to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. Over 30 countries have expressed willingness to contribute to this peacekeeping force. British military leaders are considering deploying Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter jets as part of a potential security arrangement.
**Russia’s Actions**
Russian forces continue to target energy infrastructure and other facilities in Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens residing in Russia and occupied Ukrainian territories must leave by September 10 or “regulate their legal status,” according to President Vladimir Putin‘s decree.
**Global Response**
The international community is continuing to respond to the conflict in Ukraine. The European Commission is contemplating significant cuts to Ukrainian sugar imports after complaints from EU producers about plummeting sugar prices. Italy has signed an agreement with Ukraine to launch a project aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural development and food security.
