**EU Offers Ukraine Special Market Access in Peace Deal**
The European Commission is planning to give Ukraine special access to the EU’s single market as part of a final peace deal. This was reported by The Telegraph on March 7, citing an unnamed senior EU official.
This move could help boost Ukraine’s economy, which has been severely affected by the war with Russia. The EU plan includes allowing Ukraine to sell its weapons tariff-free to both the country and other EU nations. This will give Kyiv more funds while also increasing the arsenals of EU countries.
**Ukraine Produces One-Third of Needed Weapons**
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine currently produces about a third of the needed weapons. The country aims to increase this production to 50%. The EU plan will choose which sectors to open to Ukraine and which to keep closed.
**Ukraine Applied for EU Membership in 2022**
Ukraine applied for EU membership at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The country has made quick progress, achieving candidate status within months. The initial negotiations formally launched in June 2024.
**Ukraine Wants Full Integration into EU Market**
Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said in 2023 that Kyiv was seeking to ensure full integration into the EU’s single market before joining the bloc.
