The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has proposed a peace plan for Ukraine called the “coalition of the willing”. However, British military officials have criticized it as “political theatre”.
Starmer wants countries to join a coalition that will send planes and troops to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine. He believes that this will need strong US backing to succeed. Over 30 countries have expressed interest in contributing to the peacekeeping force.

However, British military officials are skeptical about the plan. A senior army source has called it “political theatre” because it lacks a clear military strategy or goals. They say that Starmer got ahead of himself and talked about sending troops before he knew what he was doing.
Another military source has described the situation as a political move with no military sense. They also point out that Russia and the US do not support the UK-led coalition.

There is also uncertainty about the role of a 10,000-strong international force based in the west of Ukraine, far from the front line.

The US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has also rubbished Starmer’s plan. He called it “simplistic” and a “posture and a pose”.
