Opposition Parties Unite Against Oligarch‘s Rule
The opposition parties in Georgia are working together to stop the country’s oligarch, Ivanishvili, from harming it. This was said by Teona Akubardia, a member of “Gakharia – for Georgia”, at a joint briefing.
According to her, the opposition is uniting against Ivanishvili’s authoritarian rule and its effects on human rights. She believes that sanctions should be imposed on those who violate these rights under his regime.
The West is also taking notice of Georgia’s situation. The UK has stopped all programs with Georgia, including defense cooperation, and the EU ambassador has spoken out against Ivanishvili’s regime. The US Embassy has also condemned partner violence and demanded the release of prisoners being held illegally.
Teona Akubardia sees this as a sign that the people of Georgia support democracy and a European future for their country. She says that sanctions are needed to punish those responsible for human rights abuses under Ivanishvili’s rule.
