**Russia Expands Its Presence in Abkhazia**
Russia has started a new railway service and made its second air connection to the recently rebuilt Sokhumi Airport in occupied Abkhazia. This development is considered a direct threat to Georgia’s sovereignty.
The first train from Sochi, Russia arrived at Sokhumi Airport on Wednesday, marking Russia’s first railway operation in the region. Regular air travel between Russia and occupied Sokhumi will also start on May 1.
**Georgia’s Regime Remains Silent**
Georgian officials have not commented on this development. Teona Akubardia from the “For Georgia” party criticized the lack of response from the government. She said that Ivanishvili’s regime has been working with Russia to isolate Georgia from the West.
In 2023, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry remained silent when Sokhumi Airport was handed over to Russia. Since then, Russia and Georgia have adopted more Russian laws. Akubardia accused Ivanishvili‘s regime of collaborating with Russia through silence.
**Western Partners Urged to Respond**
Akubardia called on Western partners to react to this act of Russian aggression against Georgia’s sovereignty. She urged them to respond to the increasing threat to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
