**Georgian Opposition Demands Re-Elections Amid Violence and Chaos**
A member of the opposition party, Teona Akubardia, spoke out against the government’s handling of peaceful protests. She claimed that the police used excessive force, arresting over 48 people on December 6.
Akubardia described a scene of violence at the Freedom Square subway station. She said that protesters were sprayed with water jets and hit with special tools. A mother was allegedly forced to beg for her son’s release after he was taken by black-masked special forces. Akubardia accused the government of using “lawlessness and authoritarian management methods.”
**Opposition Parties Unite Against Ivanishvili**
Akubardia met with other opposition parties at a joint press conference. They demanded re-elections to end the violence and chaos in the country. The opposition leaders called for freedom for those arrested, an investigation into the police’s actions, and support from Western partners.
According to Akubardia, one citizen claimed that her 15-year-old son was beaten by up to 12 policemen before being taken to a clinic. She urged Western partners to strengthen their support for the Georgian people and impose sanctions on Ivanishvili and his regime.
**Akubardia Calls for Re-Elections**
“We believe that re-elections are the way to end this violence and chaos in the country,” Akubardia said. “The type of regime that will definitely end with the victory of the people is the one that we have now.”
