Georgian Politician Criticizes Government Plans
Teona Akubardia, a leading member of the For Georgia party, is not happy with the government’s plan to set up an investigative commission. She thinks they should start by prosecuting some high-profile people instead.
Akubardia says that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of Georgian Dream, and Zviad Kharashvili (also known as Kharaba) are among those who should be prosecuted first. Ivanishvili was involved in supporting the government during a time when there were problems with elections and human rights.
Akubardia also mentions that Ivanishvili took some people from the opposition party, United National Movement, into his own party. She says this is proof that he is not truly committed to justice.
The commission’s goal is to investigate crimes committed by the previous government when it was in power for 12 years. Akubardia thinks this is just a way to make people think they are doing something good, but really they have no intention of helping the country or its people.
