The 14-kilometer two-way Batumi Bypass Highway with 20 bridges and 5 tunnels has been officially opened.
The highway’s primary purpose is to reduce traffic in the city, and improve the living and recreational conditions of Batumi. It also provides access to nearby villages.
The Roads Department of Georgia has announced that the highway is open and in operation, but many people claim it is still closed and blocked to vehicles.
Official sources deny these complaints and state that the highway has already been opened and is in use.
The construction of the Batumi Bypass Highway has been made possible by loans from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, with additional funding coming from the state budget. The project cost GEL 330 millions. Construction has been going on for several years.
