Ukraine’s parliament passed a new law on November 21. The law lets soldiers who left their units without permission come back and continue serving.
If these soldiers return, they will not face penalties. Their contracts will still be valid. They will also get back the benefits they were supposed to receive while they were away.
This law was passed as Ukraine is fighting a tough war with Russia. The country needs more soldiers to join its Armed Forces. Earlier this month, two military brigades said that soldiers who left their units could come back and help the country win the war together.
In August, Ukraine’s parliament already made it easier for soldiers to leave without facing big problems. Now they are trying to get more people to join the army. The government wants 160,000 new recruits to join. This will make sure that front-line units have enough soldiers to fight against Russia.
