CEC Chairman Giorgi Kaandarishvili appeals the District Election Commission of Marneuli, to investigate what happened in the Marneuli 69th Precinct and make a decision.
It is a video that has been circulating on social media, in which a person is seen tossing several ballots into a ballot box. Kalandarishvili describes this as disturbing.
He also calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIDA) to complete the investigation as soon as possible.
“This is troubling news, and if confirmed by the election administration, we will not allow isolated, controlled, or manipulative incidents undermine the many months’ worth of preparations for Election Day. I would like the Marneuli District Election Commission urgently to clarify the situation. To convene a session of the commission and make a decision.
I am aware that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal investigation on the subject. I would like to request that the Ministry complete the production as soon as possible to provide the public accurate and objective information within our scope of competence.
All such cases, regardless of whether they are true or false, damage the electoral environment and the integrity of the voting day. They also damage the reputation of the institution and raise questions regarding the results. Giorgi Kalandarishvili said, “I once again appeal to District Election Commission to clarify the issue urgently and make a decision about the said precinct”.
