**Council of Europe Urges Georgia to Repeal Anti-LGBT Law**
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has called on the Georgian authorities to repeal a law that discriminates against the LGBT community. The call comes in an interim resolution related to the execution of judgments from the European Court of Human Rights.
**Georgia Fails to Protect LGBT Individuals**
The Committee of Ministers notes that Georgia has failed to protect LGBT individuals from homophobic and transphobic attacks. The European Court had previously ruled on seven cases, finding that the Georgian state was responsible for failing to ensure protection from these attacks.
**Recall of State’s Duty to Protect Human Rights**
The resolution recalls the state’s duty to protect human rights, including equality, pluralism, tolerance, and broadmindedness. It emphasizes the obligation of every state to abide by the final judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
**Urgent Call to Action**
The Committee strongly urges the Georgian authorities to accelerate investigations into attacks against LGBT individuals and to grant victim status to all applicants concerned. It also calls on the authorities to repeal the anti-LGBT law and not to proceed with any further steps that would endanger Georgia’s compliance with its obligations under Article 46 of the Convention.
**Guaranteeing Freedom of Assembly and Religion**
The Committee strongly exhorts the authorities to guarantee effective exercise of freedom of assembly and religion for all individuals without any discrimination. It also calls on the authorities to take resolute actions to end impunity and fight against all forms of discrimination, hate speech, and hate crime.
