**Russia Fails to Pay Damages to Georgia**
The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers is unhappy with Russia. They want Russia to pay damages to Georgia for the treatment of Georgian nationals in 2006-2007.
Russia arrested, detained, and expelled many Georgians back then. The European Court of Human Rights said that was not right. In a previous decision, they told Russia to pay 10 million euros to Georgia as “just satisfaction”.
**Still No Payment**
But Russia has not paid yet. It’s been three years since the deadline expired. The Committee of Ministers is very concerned about this.
They said that paying just satisfaction is an important obligation for Russia. Not doing so means that individual victims will not get the compensation they deserve.
**Committee Takes Action**
The Committee of Ministers told Russia again to pay the damages, along with interest. They also asked other countries in Europe to help find a way to make Russia follow through on this decision.
In another case from 2021, the Committee adopted a decision related to armed conflict between Georgia and Russia. This case is already final.
**Next Steps**
The Committee will discuss this again at their next meeting in December 2022. They want to see some progress made by then.
