Court Finds Activist Guilty of Insulting Clinic Director
A court in Georgia has found activist Temur Katamadze guilty of verbally insulting the director of a clinic. The court also ruled that he must pay an administrative fine of 2,800 GEL.
The incident happened on March 6 at the “Vivamedi” clinic in Batumi. The police said that Katamadze was at the clinic for medical treatment but then behaved badly and insulted the director, Nino Nadiradze.
Katamadze denied the allegations. He said he was placed in bad conditions after a hunger strike and claimed he did not insult anyone. Three people witnessed the incident, and Katamadze said they saw him change his foot position, not kick the director.
The police charged Katamadze with petty hooliganism under Article 166 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. This is the second time Katamadze has been arrested by the police. He was initially detained on administrative charges but re-arrested after being released.
