**Georgia: Politician Set Bail in Bribery Case**
A court in Tbilisi has set a bail of 50,000 GEL for Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” party. This decision was made by judge Eka Barbakadze.
**What Happened?**
Badri Japaridze is accused of failing to fulfill a request from the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament. He did not appear at a session on March 25, and later gave testimony before a magistrate judge. As a result, he was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
**Court Decision**
The state prosecution had requested that Japaridze be held without bail as a preventive measure. However, the court decided to set a bail of 50,000 GEL instead. The deadline for paying this amount is set at 50 days.
**Consequences**
If convicted under Article 349, Badri Japaridze could face a fine, imprisonment for up to one year, or the deprivation of his right to hold office or engage in activities for up to three years.
