President Meets Opposition and Civil Society to Discuss New Elections
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili met with representatives from the opposition and civil society groups. They discussed what might happen if the ruling party agrees to hold new elections, or if they refuse.
Protests Continue in Tbilisi
For the 27th day in a row, people have been taking to the streets to protest. They are blocking Rustaveli Avenue in front of the Parliament building. Medical students joined the protests after marching from Vake Park. Others came from demonstrations outside the Georgian Public Broadcaster building.
Election Commission Denies Allegations
The Central Election Commission (CEC) denied President Zurabishvili’s allegations that there was vote-rigging on October 26th. They called her claims “baseless” and part of a disinformation campaign.
U.S. Helsinki Commission Supports Georgia
The U.S. Helsinki Commission posted on social media, saying that the U.S. should help keep Georgia free and independent. They stated that Georgians are fighting for their country’s democracy and future in Europe.
Human Rights Watch Criticizes Authorities
Human Rights Watch criticized the Georgian authorities’ violent crackdown on peaceful protesters. They said this was a violation of international norms and domestic laws.
