**Journalist Arrested and Sentenced**
A judge in the city of Batumi has arrested and sent Mzia Amaglobeli, a journalist, to custody. She is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Mzia Amaglobeli is the founder and director of the independent newspaper “Batumelebi” and online outlet “Netgazeti”. Her arrest has sparked an outcry from journalists and civic activists who believe the allegations against her are exaggerated and politically motivated.
**Support from Fellow Journalist**
Vasil Ivanov-Chikovani, a presenter for the Georgian Public Broadcaster, showed support for Amaglobeli during a live broadcast. He repeatedly mentioned her name and highlighted that no police officer has faced justice for using excessive force against journalists.
**More Arrests and Sentences**
The Batumi City Court also sentenced six individuals arrested during protests on January 12 to detention. Three of them were given 12-day sentences, while three others were given 8-day sentences. The protesters chanted slogans calling for the release of Amaglobeli and other “regime prisoners”.
**Tbilisi City Court Sentences Nine**
The Tbilisi City Court heard the cases of nine individuals detained on January 12 near a restaurant where judges were attending a corporate event. All nine were sentenced to administrative imprisonment.
**European People’s Party Takes Action**
The European People’s Party has taken an emergency resolution, describing the new Georgian government and president as “devoid of democratic legitimacy”. They also called for the non-recognition of GD officials and their credentials in the Council of Europe.
**German Politician Visits Tbilisi**
Michael Roth, the outgoing chairman of the German Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, is visiting Tbilisi. He has met with opposition leaders, media representatives, and attended a protest rally on Rustaveli Avenue. He expressed support for new elections and sanctions against Georgian Dream officials.
