Dogs and cats deserve to be loved and cared for, and not live on the streets. The UNDP partner organization, “Animal Project,” is tirelessly working in Georgia to advocate for stray animal protection.
The town of Zugdidi held a festival on July 20 called #FeelThePAWerOfLove to show love and support to our furry friends. The event brought together a variety of attendees, including UNDP’s Deputy Resident Rep in Georgia Anna Chernyshova as well as local civil society groups, volunteers, Zugdidi residents, and others.
The festival participants engaged meaningful discussions about responsible pet care. They stressed the importance of adopting animals from shelters and the streets to give them a second shot at a loving family. They also stressed the importance of regular veterinary treatment, neutering and vaccinations to ensure the health of our four-legged friends.
The event also shed some light on the economic and social challenges that communities living along administrative boundary lines face, where conflict-affected people are already struggling. The increasing number of stray dogs and cats only adds to the burden on these communities, so it is important that we all come together to take action.
The festival was supported jointly by the European Union (EU) and UNDP under the #EU4Dialogue program.
