On October 17, the European Council met in Brussels to voice their opinions about the actions of the Georgian Government that were at odds with EU values. However, they supported the Georgians and their European aspirations.
The European Council has declared that it will closely monitor the Georgian parliamentary election and the general situation in the country to ensure that both domestic observers and international ones have easy access, and that their rights are protected.
The EU Council also stressed the importance of independent and free media outlets.
“The European Council reaffirms that the European Union will continue to support Georgia’s sovereignty and independence within its internationally recognized boundaries. The statement reaffirms the European Union’s commitment to peaceful conflict settlement and its policy non-recognition.
