The European ESPA Innovation Award has been awarded to the Covid Rehabilitation Program of Sairme Resorts and Evex Hospitals. The competition’s main objective was to identify hotels in the medical and health care sectors that had developed innovative, effective and distinctive approaches to improve quality of life after infection with the new Coronavirus. Maia Sanikidze is the head of Sairme’s medical department. She stated that their program’s unique, complex approach combines the clinical as well as balneological directions.
Sairme became the first Georgian brand in the European Spas Association. Sairme decided to present a project developed in collaboration with Evex Hospitals because they knew that an award like this could be won. This approach was a success. The joint program of the Georgian Resort and Medical Center won the nomination for “Innovative Medical Spa”.

Secretary General of the European Spas Association. “Along with mineral and thermal water, the nature there is also distinctive. We live in a Covid era and Sairme Hospitals and Evex Hospitals won the Innovative Medical Spa Nomination unanimously. Combining the clinical and balneological aspects was crucial to the joint program’s treatment of post-Covid complications. I would like them to be congratulated again for this important award.”
Sairme and Evex Hospitals decided to create a rehabilitation package based on their knowledge gained from pandemic management a few month ago. A joint program that includes diagnostic, treatment and recovery procedures was developed.
In the framework of the program, the Caucasus Medical Center conducts a primary health exam. Sairme Resort then provides medical-healing treatments, such as underwater massages and mineral water baths.
According to Maia Sanikidze of Sairme’s clinical department, receiving the award and joining the European Spas Association are very important.
“This year, Sairme Resort was the first and only resort in Georgia that became a member of “ESPA Spas Association”. As a member, our resort can share European experience with other resorts and align itself with European standards for the development and implementation balneological service. This is important for Sairme and for the development of the entire balneological industry in the country.
“We have a unique chance to make Georgia known in Europe, not only as an adventure and gastronomic tourism provider, but as a major resource for medical tourism. She noted that the program is a new approach to the post-Covid management.
The team at Caucasus Medical Center also feels proud to have won such an important award.
Marika Toidze is the head of the Caucasus Medical Center’s treatment and diagnostic hub. She said, “This award will contribute to the development of medical tourism within Georgia.” “Up to 100 spas representing 20 European countries took part in the competition. I’m certain they will offer programs to treat further post-Covid complications. There were some very prestigious medical resorts competing with each other. Georgia offers the highest quality medical services and spa treatments.”
Sairme Resort & Evex Hospitals plan to continue their post-Covid Rehabilitation Program and implement new joint projects next year in the clinical and bauxiteological sectors.
