**Georgian President to Lose Protection**
The Georgian Parliament has made a change in the law. This change affects the personal protection of the country‘s leaders. The Parliament voted on December 13, with 85 members in favor.
Under the new rule, the President, Prime Minister, and Parliament Speaker will not have personal protection for one year after they leave office. However, this only applies if a court finds that they broke the law or committed a crime while in office.
The current President, Salome Zurabishvili, is set to lose her protection soon. She was found guilty of breaking the Constitution on October 16, 2023. A court said she made official visits abroad without asking permission from the government.
