Changes in Georgia‘s Government
On February 20, the Georgian Dream (GD) Parliament made some big changes to the country‘s government. They approved new rules that will change how the government works. One of the main changes is that a group called the Civil Service Bureau will be shut down.
This group was created in 2004 to help make sure the government is working well and following good rules. But now, its powers will be given to the GD government administration. The new rules were passed quickly and got the support of most parliament members.
The government said it’s making these changes to save money and make the government work better. However, some people who work in the government are not happy about this change. They think the government is trying to stop them from speaking out against certain decisions.
One person who works in the Civil Service Bureau, Nino Tsukhishvili, said that the government has been making changes that hurt their work and silence them. She mentioned a petition they signed last November to protest some other changes made by the government.
The new rules will take effect on April 1, 2025. The people who run the Civil Service Bureau are now looking for new jobs or trying to figure out what’s next for them.
