Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz is optimistic about working with the new US Donald Trump to end the in Ukraine. Despite Trump being critical of US military aid to Ukraine during his campaign, Scholz believes they can find common strategy.

In an interview, Scholz said he has already spoken at length with Trump and is keeping in touch with his advisors on security policy. He expressed confidence that they can develop a plan to end the war.

Scholz also stressed that no decisions about Ukraine should be made without input from themselves. This means that any deal reached would have to take into account what is best for Ukraine, not just imposed on them by other countries.

**Germany Supports Ukraine**

Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine. He said they would provide the country with Patriot launch systems, Gepard -aircraft tanks, and an IRIS- system. This is despite Scholz previously saying that they wouldn’t give Ukraine long-range .

**Unlocking Frozen Russian Assets**

Germany also plans to help unlock $50 billion in frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction. However, Ukrainian say this has not yet happened.
