Kutaisi Court Rejects Journalist‘s Appeal
The Kutaisi Court of Appeals has made a decision regarding journalist Mzia Amaglobeli’s appeal. The court declared the appeal inadmissible, which means it will not be reviewed.
This means that the previous ruling by the Batumi City Court remains in effect. That court had imposed pre-trial detention on Mzia Amaglobeli as a preventive measure. The decision was made by Judge Nino Sakhelashvili.
Mzia Amaglobeli, who founded the media outlets “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti”, is facing charges under Article 353^1 of the Criminal Code. This article concerns assaulting a police officer. Mzia Amaglobeli was initially detained during a protest near the Batumi Police Main Department and later detained again.
The appeal was filed by Mzia Amaglobeli’s team to the Court of Appeals yesterday, and the decision was announced recently.
