The Ministry of Culture purchased a historic building of over 400 sq/m for the Georgian Art Palace.
The new building will be located next to the Georgian Art Palace in Tbilisi on Kargareteli Street. It will house the collections of Museum of Folk and Applied Arts of Georgia, which were donated two years ago to the Palace of Arts. These exhibits have not had a safe and secure storage space until now. The Georgian State Museum of Folk and Applied Art has been collecting silver ornaments and unique fabrics since 1911.
The Ministry of Culture, in order to protect the unique collections and secure them, purchased a historic property from a private person on behalf of the government, a building which was once part of the Palace of Arts during the 19th century.
The museum will use the purchased building to store and house the relevant collections. It is planned to renovate the building and turn it into a full-fledged space for a museum in 2022.
