Serbian Opposition Group Seeks to Ban Ruling Party
A group called the Ecological Uprising has asked a high court in Serbia to stop the country’s ruling party from operating. This is because they claim that the party, known as the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), has broken human rights laws and caused hatred towards different groups of people.
The Ecological Uprising says that SNS members have been violent and intolerant, and that this behavior goes against Serbia’s constitution. They point to incidents where SNS officials were involved in assaults on protesters, and where they ordered their party members to cause trouble at demonstrations.
According to the Law on Political Parties, parties are not allowed to try to overthrow the government or hurt the country’s unity. The Ecological Uprising believes that SNS has done these things and wants them to be banned from politics.
