The opposition members of Central Election Commission (CEC) demand that the CEC Commission immediately hold a session and hold re-elections.
The reason, as they explained in today’s joint press conference, is that the secrecy surrounding the voting on October 26 was violated.
“10 days has passed since the elections, and during this time, the involved parties, nongovernmental organizations, and Georgian voters protested against the violation of the Constitution‘s main principle – secrecy. Yesterday’s court confirmed this.
The opposition members in the CEC demanded that the chairman, Giorgi Kaandarishvili convene an urgent session of the CEC where the elections would be declared invalid and we demanded that re-elections take place,” said Davit Kiratidze, the member of “Unity National Movement”.
According to Giorgi Soridze, a member of the CEC who is also an opposition member, the court has also confirmed that the secrecy surrounding the voting at the elections was violated, which proves this fact beyond doubt.
“Everyone talks about how these elections were a very special operation. Our international partners will receive various proofs. Everyone knows that the privacy of voters in the technological precincts was violated. Neither the government nor the CEC denies this. The Tetritskaro District Court set a precedent by annulling the results for the respective districts. This means there is a basis to declare the elections not have been held and call for re-elections,” Sioridze said.
