**New President Takes Office**
A ceremony was held to mark the start of Mikheil Kavelashvili’s presidency. It took place at the Parliament Palace.
Kavelashvili, who was chosen by an electoral college in Parliament, promised to do his job correctly. He did this on a Bible and the country’s Constitution.
Kavelashvili brought his family members to the ceremony. The event also had Bidzina Ivanishvili, a top official of the “Georgian Dream” party.
People who helped choose Kavelashvili as president were invited to attend the ceremony. These people include lawmakers and officials from local governments. Some officials from Adjara and Abkhazia were also there.
However, diplomats were not allowed to attend the event.
The ceremony ended with a speech by Kavelashvili. Before that, Georgia’s national anthem was played.
