**Pride and Selfishness: A Barrier to God**
According to the Easter Epistle of Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, pride and selfishness are key traits of people who have turned away from God. These characteristics first appeared in humans after they disobeyed God’s rules.
In the past, caring for others and the environment was important, but now many people rely on themselves and think only of their own interests. This is not a good way to live, as it shows a lack of trust in God.
The Patriarch says that any talents or abilities we have are gifts from God, but our free will is truly ours. We must use our free will wisely and choose to serve others, just like Jesus did when he came to the world.
**A New Way to Live**
We should focus on serving others and loving them as we love ourselves. The Bible teaches us to “love your neighbor as yourself” and to “love one another” (John 13:34). This is a new way of living that will help us become closer to God.
The Patriarch reminds us that Jesus said, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved” (John 10:9). To enter this gate, we must first cast out selfishness from our hearts and make room for God. This is the only way to achieve true happiness and become citizens of Heaven.
