President-elect Trump has endorsed sitting House Speaker Mike Johnson to keep his position. Johnson needs 218 votes on the House floor to win his first full term as speaker.
In an interview, Johnson said that with a Republican-controlled Congress, there would be less disagreement within the party. However, some Republicans have been critical of Johnson’s stance on issues like US aid for Ukraine.
**Ukraine Aid**
Last year, Johnson and other House Republicans blocked a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine. They argued that domestic immigration policies should take priority. The aid package was eventually approved after concessions were made.
