Russian Occupation Army Builds Up Reserves for May Offensive
The Russian occupation army is preparing to launch a new offensive on the front in Ukraine in May, according to reports. Andriy Kovalеnkо, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, made this announcement.
Kovalеnkо stated that Russia is gathering reserves for another attempt at breaking through the front lines. However, he did not specify which part of the front the Russian command plans to launch the offensive from.
Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have also warned about a large-scale Russian attack in the Lyman direction. They pointed out that earlier this year, Russia successfully crossed the Zherebets River and has been expanding its foothold over the last three months.
The ISW analysts noted that the Russian army has a significant numerical advantage in this area, with reportedly 10 Russians for every one Ukrainian soldier. The Russian command is also reinforcing the 3rd and 144th Motorized Rifle Divisions, which have been stationed in the Lyman direction since 2023 without rest or recovery.
Separately, analysts from the Ukrainian project DeepState reported that Russian forces have advanced near the village of Srybne on the Pokrovsk direction. They also reported progress by the occupiers in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
