**Russian Spy Agency Detains German Citizen**
On November 20, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it had detained a German citizen named Nikolai Gaiduk. The FSB accused Gaiduk of planning terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure in the Kaliningrad region.
Gaiduk is a resident of Hamburg, Germany. He is suspected of orchestrating a bomb attack on a gas distribution station in March 2024. This incident happened in the Kaliningrad region, which is a heavily guarded area of Russia between NATO members Poland and Lithuania.
**Detention and Search**
The FSB claims that Gaiduk entered the Kaliningrad region from Poland to carry out further sabotage. During a search of his vehicle, authorities reportedly found 0.5 liters of liquid explosive material. This has led to a criminal case being opened against him on charges of terrorism and explosives smuggling.
**Connection to Ukraine**
The FSB also accused Alexander (Oleksandr) Zhorov, a Ukrainian citizen living in Hamburg, of giving Gaiduk instructions and materials for the attacks. A 57-year-old native of Ukraine, Gaiduk had previously lived in Konotop in Sumy Oblast before moving to Germany.
**Reaction from German Government**
The German Foreign Ministry said it was keeping itself informed about the situation but declined to comment on the allegations against Gaiduk.
