Russian Prosecutors Consider Cases Against 2 Georgian Fighters
The Russian General Prosecutor’s Office is looking into cases against two Georgians who fought for Ukraine. According to the office, Lado Gamsakhurdia and Qartlos Rusitashvili joined a Ukrainian military unit as mercenaries in 2022.
They went to war on behalf of Ukraine from 2022 to 2024. The Russian prosecutors say they participated in combat operations.
The General Prosecutor’s Office also claims that Gamsakhurdia recruited and trained other fighters. They have sent the cases against the two Georgians to a court in the occupied Donetsk region of Ukraine.
This has raised concerns about the treatment of foreign fighters by Russia.
